DIY Watermelon Piñata

Ummm, can we talk about how freakin' cute this watermelon piñata is?! I am obsessing over it and loving how easy it was to create. Please excuse me while I go turn everything into a piñata...

Materials

Cardboard

Tissue Paper in Red, Light Green & Dark Green

Black Construction Paper

Glue Stick

Ruler

Pencil

Scissors

Painters Tape/Masking Tape

Step 1

***

Decide what size you want your piñata. I just went by the size of the cardboard I had. Measure two triangles with a rounded bottom and three equal sides.

Step 2

***

Cut out and tape together making a 3 dimensional triangle shape.

This is easier to accomplish than it seems.

Step 3

***

Cut long strips of tissue paper and with your scissors, fray the tissue along the strip.

Be sure not to cut all the way through.

Step 4

***

Starting from the bottom, glue the frayed tissue paper onto the cardboard.

Apply the glue directly to the cardboard and stick only the top of the tissue paper (the un-frayed section).

You should be wrapping the tissue strips around the shape going higher with each row.

Step 5

***

Switch up the colors as you get closer to the top. Light green first, then dark.

For the top of the piñata, I just glued the dark green tissue paper flat on the top to finish. No frayed tissue paper necessary.

Step 6

***

Cut out and glue tear drop shapes from the black construction paper for the seeds.

I didn't add candy to this piñata. It was merely used for decoration. However, if you want to fill it, just cut a square "U" shaped flap using box cutters on the top of the pinata.

There you have it! I super cute & trendy piñata to upgrade your party!
